• 9:00 - 10:00 am: The featured speaker for this year’s symposium is Sam Chambers, Career Coach with the University of Vermont, who will be presenting “Reading Between the Lines: Supporting Students Through Uncertainty with Compassionate Presence.” This session will explore mindful presence as a foundation for recognizing subtle signals and transference patterns, leading to transformative student interactions and impactful support for early talent in the face of uncertainty. Participants can expect to learn techniques for mindful engagement, identify unconscious messages, and develop practices to create a holding environment for students and alums entering the workforce. With over a decade in higher education and nonprofit leadership, Sam Chambers currently serves as a Career Coach at the University of Vermont, where he integrates mindfulness, play, and nature-based approaches to support students and alums align their values to discover meaningful careers.

   

  10:00 -11:00 am: Attendees who are interested in presenting their top wins, best practices, or effective programs from the past year should contact Chrissy Renfro at crenfro@uwyo.edu. You’ll be asked to provide a few slides and be able to review them for 3-5 minutes.

   

  11:00 am - 12:00 pm: Breakout discussion topics include continued conversation with speaker Sam Chambers; staff retention strategies; creative ideas for engaging students; employer connections with students and/or career staff outside of fairs; non-traditional internship formats (such as microinternships); establishing early touchpoints with students for career development; grants and other sources of creative sources; cross-campus collaborations to reach “straggler” students.
